Teaching and Learning Assessment

Children’s Learning Portfolio

Our kindergarten adopts a “Children’s Learning Portfolio” as the main assessment tool. Based on teachers’ professional observation and evaluation, children’s developmental progress at different age levels is carefully assessed and documented.

Professional Assessment Procedures

Our assessment procedures include:

  1. Observation during Parent-Child Activities upon admission (K1)
  2. Ongoing assessment of thematic units in K1, K2 and K3
  3. Developmental assessment records for K1, K2 and K3 (First Term / Second Term)
  4. Assessment of children’s development in the six learning areas, including:
    • Physical Fitness and Health
    • Self and Society
    • Nature and Living
    • Language Development
    • Early Mathematics
    • Arts and Creativity
  5. Collection of children’s artwork
  6. Annual Learning and Development Report for K1, K2 and K3 (Summative Assessment)
  7. Parent feedback on project learning

Record Keeping and Parent Communication

All assessment information is compiled and kept on file. An assessment report is distributed to parents during the First Term Parent Day and should be returned to the class teacher within one week. In the Second Term, parents are invited to attend a parent-teacher conference, during which the annual “Children’s Learning Portfolio” is distributed for parents’ retention.

Teacher Evaluation

Professional Observation and Understanding

Teachers observe and understand each child’s development and learning progress, while communicating with parents to establish appropriate educational directions collaboratively.

Documentation and Individual Differences

Through conversations, photographic records and written documentation, teachers present each child’s learning characteristics. Attention is given to individual differences, ensuring children receive appropriate support according to their needs.

Home-School Collaboration

When individual needs or concerns are identified, teachers proactively communicate with parents and provide suitable support and assistance.

Parent Contribution

Valuable Insights from Parents

Parents provide important information regarding their child’s abilities, strengths and possible challenges. Their observations and perspectives are essential in supporting children’s development.

Partnership in Growth

Through collaboration with the school, parents help enhance understanding of their child’s needs, enabling appropriate follow-up and support.

Enhancing Understanding through the Portfolio

The “Children’s Learning Portfolio” enables parents to gain a deeper understanding of their child’s development and learning progress, fostering effective home-school cooperation and supporting children through positive and meaningful guidance.
